ANADIGICS Announces 7 mm by 7 mm GSM/GPRS/EDGE Power Amplifier Module

ANADIGICS, Inc. (Nasdaq: ANAD), a leading supplier of wireless and broadband solutions, announced today the expansion of its GSM product portfolio with the introduction of a new power amplifier (PA) module that supports the 2.5G Enhanced Data for Global Evolution (EDGE) standard. The highly integrated AWT6168 quad-band PA supports the open-loop polar EDGE modulation radio architecture, which offers the lowest cost solution for dual-mode GSM/EDGE handsets. EDGE networks offer the benefit of wireless multimedia services with data speeds typically three times faster than those available on GSM/GPRS networks. While several GSM operators are migrating directly to 3G WCDMA (UMTS) networks, EDGE will enable GSM operators without 3G licenses or spectrum to use existing GSM spectrum. The small 7 mm by 7 mm AWT6168 GSM/GPRS/EDGE PAs deliver best-in-class GSM-mode efficiency of 55% in the GSM850/GSM900 bands and 50% in the DCS/PCS bands. The PA modules support GMSK and 8-PSK modulation modes with dual-, tri-, and quad-band support for any combination of the GSM850, GSM900, DCS, and PCS bands. ANADIGICS' EDGE PAs include an integrated power control scheme for use in the GSM mode that facilitates fast and easy power calibration in production. The new PA modules feature ANADIGICS' industry-leading InGaP HBT technology, which provides superior performance, reliability, and manufacturing yield compared with AlGaAs technology.
