ANADIGICS, Inc. (Nasdaq:ANAD) today announced that it has shipped more than 750,000 gallium arsenide (GaAs) integrated circuits (ICs) for use in cable modems. ANADIGICS is a leading resource for the design and manufacture of high frequency GaAs ICs for CATV applications. These components are being used by major players in the cable modem market, including Bay Networks, Com21 and Motorola. The ACU50750, ACU50751 and ACD0900 offer these ANADIGICS customers an ideal product solution for applications in which small component size, low cost, and high performance are important. As announced on April 8, 1998, ANADIGICS introduced an enabling technology for the low cost manufacture of next generation digital set tops, digital TV and cable modems with its new single supply 860 MHz GaAs Upconverter MMIC, the ACU50751. This new MMIC is compatible with all digital and analog modulation types, and is compliant with the new Multimedia Cable Network System (MCNS) interoperability standard. The ACU50750 is a 50-860 MHz CATV/TV upconverter MMIC. It is designed for use in double conversion CATV set top box converters, cable modems and TV receiver tuners. As a high-performance downconverter, the ACD0900 is used in the 2nd conversion stage in double-conversion tuners and cable modems. "The growth of these new markets provides additional opportunities for ANADIGICS' portfolio of digital broadband tuner products.," said Ronald Rosenzweig, President and Chief Executive Officer of ANADIGICS. "We are pleased to have teamed with Bay Networks, Com21 and Motorola in the development of products for the growing cable modem market. We are currently developing additional products to address reverse path CATV applications, as well as other CATV ICs." "Bay Networks chose ANADIGICS' components for their quality and performance," said Chris Grobicki, director of product development for Bay Networks' Broadband division. "Our partnership with ANADIGICS will help ensure that Bay Networks continues to provide innovative Broadband access solutions." "ANADIGICS' components are ideal for situations where small size, low cost and high performance are integral to the manufacture of our products", said Paul Pfuhl, Director of Product Engineering for Motorola Cable Data Products. "We expect the ANADIGICS' solutions to help us meet the demand for large-scale roll-outs of new CATV applications." "Com21 selected ANADIGICS' components as a low cost and space efficient solution to improve our products' performance and reliability. Our partnership with ANADIGICS is instrumental in supporting launches of our CATV applications and the further development of innovative products," Buck Gee, Vice President of Marketing for Com21.
